The passing…

Death is with us every day, the passing out of this world, into the mystery. If you put your hand on your heart and slow down your thoughts to hear its beating, you realize that there are things beyond your control that affect whether you will be here the next moment, the next day. Every time I hear the silence between the beats, I am realizing that there is no guarantee that the next beat will come, no provable assurance or security. Similarly to this our life can end anytime, despite our ample efforts to assure ourselves and make it longer.

But we have one instrument, one mighty tool that rushes to help us. It is called hope. Hope that the next beat will come, just as the next day. Hope that we just might be given a chance to live lives full of laughter and joy. Hope that things will be ok, for the people we love and for beyond, for our planet and lives of other species that share this planet with us. It is just a hope you might say, but it is indeed a powerful instrument.

As we live our lives every day, the hope carries us alongside the biggest fear we all have, the fear of death that reminds us resolutely that we are here only for a short while.

It is within the space created by hope that we may choose to fill our lives with meaning, with joy, with passion and compassion, with kindness and love. For there is no time for anything else…
